DPS In Progress Evidence Entry 3

To create my break out boxes I created from boxes a black rectangle, I did this for a border line for the text to go in the middle, I then created with the same tool a white line just to break off the whole break out box. I placed them all together then Grouped by highlighting and right clicking down to "Group".

I then used the text wrap to help the break out box stay in between the text in the text boxes, I used the break out boxes to help with setting out the listing of the films in the article, just so that my double page spread had a similar theme to Empire magazine.

To fit with Empire I then added in a caption to do this I created a text box and copied and pasted a caption from in the text I thought was relevant into the text box. I then changed the font size to 14, then I changed the font text to Minion pro.

As you see down below is an Image of the caption in between the text, All I did was use the same technique as I did for the break out box and that was Text Wrap> Wrap around bounding box.

For the list of headers all I did was copy and paste the "already" existing header box that I had created first time all I did was rename the next film and added in the ratings of every film in the list on the white bar which I also created, After setting out the layout with the text and the headers I then placed image boxes and inserted the image by file>insert.

As you see in the top corner of the Spider-Man image I have added a little caption about the film, Its not major but its a little fact about the film this was done because i wanted to narrow down the image and give a reason to why its so big and why its there. these little captions are used in most magazines to help narrow down large scaled images just so that the reader understands why its there.

DPS In Progress Evidence Entry 2

From my experience from Indesign I have learned about text flow which I used in my Double page spread, With in my Indesign I have had to learn to re-size the images and how to place a drop cap.

To place a drop cap you go to the paragraph properties box and select drop cap options and there you'll be able to place a drop cap (A drop cap is the capital letter at the start of the article to help you find where to start reading)

To select text flow you first off create text boxes from the top column and then insert text into your first text box after that hit the little red button on the right hand corner on the bottom of the text box and drag into the second, keep repeating this until all the text boxes are completely filled with font size 11, here you can add the drop cap and sort out the presentation.

leading- its a space in between the lines
cerning- its the letter space

These too will help the set layout in your magazine double page.

DPS Work In Progress Evidence Entry 1

To set up my Indesign Double page I had to start off by creating column guides at 3 Columns ( this was so that it fit to the inside of an Empire magazine) Page size= Width: 220 Height: 283 this was to start it off then I have learned that in design you can not copy and paste or shall I say Never copy and paste.
On a New Doc. it needs 3 pages A4, 3 columns, Margins 10mm 10mm inside 5mm 8mm
I have learned to draw a rectangle with column width and height, the I file and place image
short cut is Ctrl + D filter fit, proportion

If text has red line through it- mean invisible
20% opacity
i had to write in word as pure text; for stories
Rectangle tool, content > text
file & place
text flow

Pulroid photo effect. create box, place image- fitting fill. fill colour (white) right click arrange> bring front.
Highlight element: group click drag
Odd numbers work!
-1 degrees
20%

FX drop shadow
copy paste quote into rectangle
Font>zoom>Bold
crunch text

leaving space in between lines
Tight leading loose leading
centre justified

Quote insert
function: drag you in
Window> text wrap

Making my Magazine Part 2

As you see from the first blog: Making my Magazine Part 1, I wasn't quite finished to a standard where i could actually use it as a magazine so to make it more appealing i added strobbing to it; Strobbing is where you follow the text that you are using in a more frequent flow example i used 3 colours Black, red and White, to make the flow i did Black, Red, Black,Red on the top of the magazine and the same on the bottom of the magazine, But for the Main leading title i used Red, White, Red then White again for the much bolder font, I did this so that 1. you can actually see the font and the wring that is on the Magazine overlaying black 2. so that it had a bit of a quirk to the overall magazine.
If you noticed i added some white boxes overlaying the image of Emma and Andrew just to add a bit more dimensional to the magazine, I noticed this when researching and taking ideas for my own magazine that Empire does this for Text also. So I did that too i added text with the flow of Red and Black just so that it goes well with the rest of the text.
If you have realized I have Guidelines Going down the left and right sides of the magazine this is so that I know where I place things like text or imagery, because if you think about it when your reading a book or looking on the web at something people always place there text or images in the middle because hats where your eyes focus more at so when you are looking for a magazine it will have everything cramped up in the middle so that you can visually see and pick out parts you like about it. So there for i added guidelines.
Finally i added Some cells; Cells are you overlay icons that sell off your magazine.
I will start off by the corner Cell on the right hand side up the top, I created that with using the square tool on Photoshop and the "transforming it" to a triangle by halving it, I then added some text just to make it more suitable for a magazine style icon.
I then created the Button Cell by individually Creating a White circle (by using the circle tool) then a Black circle but a little smaller than the White one and then a Red Circle but also a bit more smaller than the Black one, If you noticed I used the Flow colour scheme for them too just so that they fit its the same with the corner Cell.
I added text in the button Cell just so that it has a reason to be on the magazine and also to make it look like more of an Empire magazine.

Finally to finish off my magazine I deselected the head of my model to overlap the logo to do this i used the little pen tool to mark off points of where i wanted to crop from and then Ctrl+D to deselect the image. I then pulled that in front of everything so that it overlapped the Logo.
Personally i think this sharpens up my magazine and makes it look more professional just like Empire.

Making my magazine Part 1

To create my magazine front cover I have taken my image that I edited on Photoshop, then Transferred it a a flat image so I could use it as a main background for my magazine.
Then I created the logo of an original magazine called Empire By using Dafont.com I then copy and paste it into PowerPoint Documents and removed the background and shape the font, I then place on to a separate page in Photoshop and used the Paint bucket tool to fill the magazine logo read However to get the original shape i save an image from Google images and dragged it into Photoshop onto a new page, there I could use the colour select tool onto the original logo and highlight the main colour that's when I used the paint bucket tool to fill in the rest of the logo. After all that i then positioned my own logo to where i thought looked presentable.
To create the white boxes with writing on them all i did was use the Rectangle shape tool and dragged it across the top of the page I made it thin so that it looked like a boarder. I then copied by using Ctrl+J and then dragged it down to the bottom of the page just so I had the lengths at equal measures, I adjusted the bottom white bar to make it look a bit wider so that I could fit the main text into it Example; whats in the magazine or who will be in such page or features.
I then added a cut out image of Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield on the red carpet just to make my magazine look more professional like all the other Empire magazines.
Then i also added a bar-code from off the internet. Don't worry i checked and its not a real bar-code from any product its just a dub so its genuine.

My next step into creating my magazine I added in some text, By text i mean i added the date of creation, how much the magazine is in pounds (£), how much in dollars ($) and the shipping code.

I wanted my magazine to look just like a professional Empire magazine but in my own creation of course because I generally like the layout on how this magazine helps us the viewers stand out from the other magazines so that we can buy it and its all down to the main image where the model has to be in the 3 lined rule so that the model looks like she is looking straight at you in which draws you the buyer into buying the product, I have already done this with my image of my model and to me I think I have nailed the same aspect on drawing the buyer in just like what Empire would do.
I already explained in my other blog: Editing on Photoshop, on how I got my image of my Model to look like that. Where her face is glowing and the background seems more dull.
However that's just the start of my Magazine.
